Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini has unveiled its new FIA GT challenger, the Murciélago R-GT, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car, developed jointly with race engineering company Reiter Engineering and parent company Audi's sports division, Audi Sport has been built to the specification of FIA and ACO regulations, and will be eligible to compete in the American Le Mans Series. Reiter Engineering will field one of the 6.0-liter V12-engined, sequential-gearbox cars in the FIA GT rounds at Estoril on Oct. 5 and at Monza on Oct 19. Drivers Peter Kox and Oliver Gavin will handle the initial test and race program. All cars sold to customers will be supported by the Lamborghini Customer Sports Program, which will offer trackside assistance. No customer teams were announced at the unveiling, but the company is confident interest in the car will be strong. "There is already substantial demand for the Murciélago R-GT, from motorsports teams and drivers alike,” said Werner Mischke, chairman and president of Automobili Lamborghini. “We anticipate this new race car becoming one of the special attractions in GT motorsport." from speedtv.com
